“A very painful day”

St. Louis
Anheuser-Busch InBev announced job cuts for 1,400 workers yesterday. About 1,000 of those laid off will be from the St. Louis area.
“A very painful day,” is how St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay described the situation.
Most of the layoffs will be in engineering, information technology and other positions at the corporate level.
Laid off workers will receive help finding new jobs, starting their own businesses or going back to school. They will also receive severance pay, pension benefits, 2009 vacation pay, outplacement services and a year of medical coverage.
The layoffs are a result of job duplications after Belgium-based InBev bought Anheuser-Busch last month.
